Parents who smoke, drink, or do drugs are putting their children at risk, but there are other dangerous chemicals that you should also watch out for. The things you use to clean and protect your home can be problematic, and most parents don’t realize that. If you’re concerned about it, it would be a good idea to clean with organic and natural products, instead of harsh chemicals. It’s also a good idea to be careful what you clean your carpet or other flooring with. You just walk on it, but your baby or toddler crawls around on it. He or she is much closer to the chemicals.
Crawling on hands and knees in chemicals and then putting tiny hands into the mouth isn’t healthy. You really can’t stop a child from doing those kinds of things, so it’s a much better choice to use only things on the floor that you feel are going to be safe and healthy. Then you won’t have to worry so much about what your little one is ingesting, as long as you keep your floor clean. Room sprays can be a problem, too, because they contain a lot of chemicals to make things smell good. You might not want to spray them right around your child.
There’s no way you can completely protect your child from chemicals and other kinds of substances. That’s unfortunate, but it’s true. However, the effort you make can go a long way toward ensuring that your little one grows up as healthy and safe and comfortable as possible. Don’t expect to be able to do it all as a parent, because that’s not realistic. Just do the best you can, use common sense, and pay attention to the labels on items you bring into your house. That will help your child to grow up healthy and happy.
