Not all parents homeschool their kids, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any teaching that goes on at home. There’s still plenty to learn from parents and others in the home environment. Don’t assume that your kids aren’t learning anything from you, since there’s plenty for them to learn if they just watch you. That’s why it’s so very important to set a good example. Show them not to drink, smoke, or do drugs, and teach them to be responsible for their own actions. Let them know it’s okay to make honest mistakes, but that they should always work to correct them.
You can also teach them a lot about interacting with other people. Treat others the way you would want to be treated, and be kind to everyone. It’s especially important to be nice to people who aren’t always nice to you, because that shows the strength of your character. When you do that, you’ll be much better able to instill good values in your children, and show them that they can’t change how other people act but they can decide how they react. They have control over themselves, and they should exercise that control to do good, kind things, not to hurt others.
Teaching them how to cook, clean, and care for others can also be valuable, because it will help your children be more well-rounded and prepared for the outside world. Most importantly, teach your children about joy and love and confidence. If they have those things, they can pretty much figure everything else out. If you instill confidence into them, that will be something they will take with them all of their lives. They can use it in any situation, and it can’t do anything but help them – making it a highly valuable trait for anyone to have.
